My Favorite Naturalista: HairCrush "Chime Edwards" Part 2

My hair- Results from a Twist out/Bantu knot
This, picture to the left, is a current photo of me. I am 2 plus years natural and still going strong. This has been a tough journey for me but it's well worth it. I love being natural. I transitioned for about six months and then I did the Big Chop, February 26, 2012. If it weren't for my Fave Naturlista's I don't know if I could have stayed motivated and strong.

HairCrush, Chime Edwards has been a great inspiration to me on my natural hair journey. Just looking at her videos on tutorials helped me in my process. When I first went natural I did not know what to do or where to turn and her long big hair gave me hope and inspiration.

Chime Edwards YouTube Channel is filled with many different types of vlog posts. She documents her hair, hair tips, hair maintenance, hair styles, Q&A's, hair talks, fashion, funny videos, and etc. Chime Edwards is very versatile with her channel which is why I am a subscriber, that and also her cool, warm and bubbly personality. She is very entertaining. One to watch!

Chime Edwards has really gained a following with her very creative YouTube channel. She is gaining a great following on other social media sites as well. Today, Chime Edwards has around 174k plus YouTube subscribers, 15k plus Facebook likes and a verified check, 34k plus Instagram followers and counting.

What's cool about Chime Edwards is that when her subscribers comment on her videos she finds time to respond back to them and/or thank them. She is so nice and humbled. When wathcing her video's I am always entertained. I'm so grateful that she allowed me to interview her when I was a senior in college and that I am able to share this story, My Favorite Naturalista: HairCrush "Chime Edwards" Part 2, with you all today. Chime Edwards is awesome and I wish her much success!

*Please keep in mind that this interview is about a year in a half old, some information may have changed.
Thank you and enjoy!

How long have you been natural?
Chime Edwards: It will be 4 years in February.

What made you want to go natural?
Chime Edwards: My hair was breaking off so fast and my hair was so damaged. I remembered when I was younger and I had a greasy press lol my hair wasn't breaking so I thought that I should revisit having chemical free hair. Also, my African American studies professor taught me so many things concerning African beauty and the fact that we were changing ourselves to fit the European standard of beauty. Many things "clicked" for me around the same time and I decided going natural was the best choice for me.

Do you love being natural?
Chime Edwards: YES!! I can confidentially say that I will never relax my hair again.

Did you have a lot of support when you decided to go natural?
Chime Edwards: I only had the support of my two besties who were going natural as well. It's good to have support through a friend or family member who is transitioning as well.

What products do you use and how often do you change your products?
Chime Edwards: I change products whenever I have the urge to try something new and if I like it better than what I'm currently using I'll add it to the permanent product roster. Right now I'm using Giovanni's Smooth as Silk Shampoo, Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner and the Glycogen Protein Balancing Conditioner to deep condition. I also use Giovanni's Leave-In Conditioner and I seal my hair with Almond Oil. I use Coconut oil for daily conditioning.

How did you educate yourself on natural hair?
Chime Edwards: There were several websites that I frequented like www.curlynikki.com and www.afrobella.com and also watched hundreds of YouTube videos. The internet has a plethora of information. I soaked up a ton!

How long have you been uploading YouTube videos?
Chime Edwards: It's been about a year and a half now. Wow, time really flies!

What inspired you to start uploading videos on YouTube?
Chime Edwards: I believed that I had acquired a great deal of information so I wanted to to help others and possibly make their journeys easier.

Do you use YouTube as an outlet for you to express yourself?
Chime Edwards: Yes, I love being able to share my thoughts and feelings about an issue and receive feedback from people all over the world. It's very cool.

How did you get over a million YouTube views?
Chime Edwards: lol I don't know...God! It really is a blessing! The channel has grown quickly and I am thankful for the opportunities it has presented.

What was your thought process when you reached one million YouTube video views?
Chime Edwards: There are so many incredibly successful YouTube vloggers that have quadruple the number of views that I have so I didn't think mine was really big deal. I was happy that I had an audience who wanted to listen to me and that was motivation to keep making quality videos.

How do you edit your videos?
Chime Edwards: I use iMovie on my MacBook Pro. It's a good editing system but I'm still trying to figure out all of the cool affects I can use....I'm really not a technologically savvy person lol

What advice do you have for others who want to go natural or are newly natural?
Chime Edwards: Be aware that it may be a little difficult at times but it is well worth it in the end. It doesn't matter what other people have to say about your decision to go natural. Don't allow the opinion of others to influence your decisions. Keep your focus on your goal and you will be a healthy naturalista in no time.
